Conveyancing in NSW: New AML Changes Property Buyers & Sellers Should Know About

Whether you're buying your first home, selling an investment property, or purchasing a development site, conveyancing is one of the most important stages of any property transaction.

At The Legal Problem Solver, we assist clients across NSW with residential, commercial and development conveyancing, ensuring transactions proceed smoothly from contract review through to settlement.

New AML Requirements Are Coming

From 1 July 2026, significant changes to Australia's Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws will impact property transactions. Lawyers, conveyancers and other professionals involved in property dealings will be required to undertake additional client verification and due diligence procedures.

As a result, buyers and sellers may be asked to provide:

  • Additional identification documents

  • Information regarding the source of funds

  • Supporting financial documentation

  • Further information about the nature of the transaction

While these requirements may add an extra step to the process, they are designed to protect the integrity of Australia's property market and reduce the risk of financial crime.

Why Legal Advice Matters

Property contracts often contain legal and commercial risks that are not immediately obvious. Early legal advice can help identify issues before contracts are exchanged and minimise the risk of costly disputes or delays.

With over 27 years of legal experience, The Legal Problem Solver provides practical, commercial property law advice to individuals, investors and developers throughout NSW.

If you are buying, selling or developing property, contact our team to discuss how we can assist with your conveyancing and property law needs.
